Analysing the lyrics of our song allows us to truly understand what the artist is trying to say and portray within her music, this helps us come up with ideas of what to put into our song and understand what the artist really wants the audience to feel, this again, helps us understand what to include within the music video and therefore help us create an accurate representation of our artist and create the same effect on our audience as the artist we are trying to recreate does on her audience, making it more likely that our artist will become successful and widely renounced and therefore she can sell her music to a wider target audience.
The hidden meaning of of our song is that as much as a couple are in love, there is always a chance that one will mess it up and sometimes you can be too nice, our group got together and went through the lyrics of the song, discussing our interpretation of each part and how it could be shown in a visual context, this helped us understand what was meant by the artist and what we wanted to say to our audience, genre conventions we will use will include a love narrative, due to the hidden meaning we got from the song being about relationships, we will also use fairy lights within the scene in the garden, this is conventional within the indie genre, we will use this to represent the happiness and fulfilment her boyfriend clearly gives her, we could see this in the lyrics while analysing it, we could also see the distress she was in after upsetting her boyfriend as she goes through the souvenirs, we want the audience to see this in the video, finally we will use the convention of red colours, we will get the artist to wear red lipstick in some scenes as well as red clothing, this will represent the danger and love within the story which can be seen within the lyrics of the song.
We will use low angles to show the authority of the artist, this is showing that she is the one bringing the relationship to an end and the boyfriend has no power over it, we can see she is the dominant one through lyrics such as "maybe I wanted you to change", this shows she was the one that waned him to change for her, not what he wants to do, the audience look up to the artist as see her as an idol
Another is the two shot, we will use this to show the togetherness of the couple and how inseparable they are, we get this from lyrics saying how nice he is and constantly praising him and we want to show the audience how much they are in love. This allows the audience to emphasise toward the artist as they can see how in love she is and the emotion the artist has put into the song.
The first editing style we will use is fast paced editing, this will be to show the speed the relationship has gone at and how she wishes she could live every moment again, showing how much she loved it and loved him, we can see this through the lyric "holding onto memories of you and me. This editing style will allow the audience to emphasise toward the artist as they can see how as time went by, she still is in love with him.
Shot reverse shot will be used, this is during the scenes in which both the boyfriend and artist are in the same scene together, this will be used to show the love/affection they have for each other, but will also show the upset of the boyfriend during the pub scene, seeing the emotions of the artist will allow the audience to feel closer to the artist and understand them as a person better, helping build relationships between the audience and artist.
The first mise en scene we will use is dark lighting, this will show the darkness in the relationship has and that underneath there is conflict and anger within the relationship, this will show the audience that there is darkness underneath the seemingly loving relationship between the artist and boyfriend. This will create a bond between the artist and audience as they will see the pain she is feeling and therefore emphasise toward her.
Next is iconography like fairy lights, these will be used to show the light within the bad times and the happiness the boyfriend brings her although there is a darkness hidden. This will help the audience see the true story behind the relationship and that it will not work out, however much the artist wants it to, therefore they sympathise toward the artist and truly relate to her, helping create a relationship between the artist and audience.
Thirdly the setting will be in places to do with nature such as fields and back gardens, this shows how down to earth and pure the artist is, helping the audience take a liking to her, then we have red clothing/lip stick, this shows the danger their relationship is in but also shows the love they share toward each other and what they really think of each other.
For costume we will get the artist to wear lighter clothing during the first half of the song and then darker clothing for the second half, to show the darkness and sadness during the second part and how happy and loving the relationship was in the first half of the song. This will help the artist show her audience how she truly feels without words, helping them bond with her and truly understand how she feels, therefore they are closer to her and can relate to her.
Finally there will be a use of facial expressions to show the love between her and her boyfriend, the audience can see the true emotion in their face and can see what they are truly thinking. They will see that she is truly saddened by the breakdown of the relationship and therefore they will feel closer to her as they can see how she feels without her speaking, this causes a close bond and therefore the audience and artist create a truly close relationship.
We will use narrative to show the artists life with her boyfriend and the relationship they share, this helps the audience understand the true emotion they share and then lets the audience connect to them and will them to do well, also we will use performance with the artist playing the guitar whilst singing, this shows the audience that the artist is truly talented and has raw ability.
We wish to create a relationship between the artist and audience by showing them an insight into the artists relationship and lets them really understand the emotion of her, allowing them to emphasise with her and truly get to grips with who she truly is and her personality. The audience will have a truly close bond with the artist as they can see how she feels without her speaking, this makes them feel like they truly know her and therefore they build a relationship with the artist.
We have used lots of genre conventions to target our audience, this attracts the audience that we want and enjoy the music as it is the correct music for their taste, and they will therefore follow the artists music and she will become more popular and become wider renounced within her target audience. Using genre conventions lets the audience recognise it as an indie video, therefore they are more likely to be drawn in and engaged by it, helping make the song and artist successful in turn, this is important as if this is not achieved then the longevity of a successful career for the artist will not be achieved and the artist will die down over time.
The annotations will help us understand what we are doing and truly create our ideas, we will use these annotations to help us understand what we are filming part by part and why we are doing it, this allows us to truly get why the target audience enjoy the music and make them stick with the artist
The lyrics appeal to the audience as they relate to normal relationships of everyday people, helping her audience relate, this shows how down to earth she is and that she is like an everyday person, the relatable lyrics of an unsuccessful relationship allows the audience to see how the artist is just the same as the audience and that she is just living life like them, helping them warm toward her as a person.
The style of video is performance and narrative, I will include both due to it needing to be a mix of both style to help make the video engaging for the audience and therefore they stay interested in the video and overall enjoy the video more, helping make the artist and song more successful within the indie genre and music industry
This is a very basic analysis of your group's lyrics, as you have briefly stated what the general meaning of the song is, but not considered the hidden meanings and messages, or the specific examples that you will use for cinematography, editing and mise-en-scene.
ReplyDeleteYou need to:
1) Go back and follow the correct structure with 2 examples for camera and editing and 5 examples for MES
2) Consider the connotations/hidden messages of the lyrics and how you will interpret them within your music video
3) Consider the target audience appeal
4) Consider codes and conventions
5) Style of your video
6) Audience relationship with the artist
You have considered MES, camera, editing, target audience appeal and relationship with the artist, as well as some conventions. However, you need to elaborate on these points and include a conclusion, making this a somewhat sound post
