The primary research was used to help us understand what our audience wanted and why they wanted it within the video, by asking a target audience their preference we can see what should be added, this was the case with the idea of using performance and narrative as styles of video as it allowed them to engage into the video more. It let us understand the effect it creates, therefore the group and I can make sure we know what we are doing and get what we could put in there, secondary research helped us gain inspiration for our video, as well as plan for what shots and editing techniques will be used, this is important for our group as it allows us to decide on details that can help improve our video which we may have forgotten about before, we took inspiration of fast timing of shots from Ed Sheerans - A team, he used this to show the passing of time, we done the same thing to show that the artist is still reminiscing over previous times and hasn't got over the boy. Planning is important for a successful music video and without the video may be a flop. We took inspiration from artists of different genres as well as the artist that we have used the song of, taking a mix of different and the same genre as it allows for a mix of conventions while not straying too far from the original genre and keeping its identity while not being too similar to others, our group story boarded together, we all done it together as we all knew the story, this allowed us to get through it quicker and spend more time focusing on other planning as we all understood the story line, we all done different parts so that we could decide on the shots and editing techniques we wanted to use.
We have followed our storyboard as it was carefully thought out and has allowed us to stick to it, however we have added a few extra shots which are used as fillers during the song, these do not contribute to the narrative really but allow us to use up extra time whilst adding to the story, storyboarding allowed us to understand how long we need to film each part to take up the full time needed, meaning we will not go to edit and realise we haven't filmed enough and ruin our music video
Different group members gave different inspirations and ideas, for example, Kerry came up with the idea of the memory box as a use of mise en scene to show that the artist is still living in the past and wants to reminisce in previous, happy times. Alfie came up with the idea of showing memories using the filter 'dream', this helped the audience distinguish between memories and current times.
The inspiration of the memory box was taken from Gabrielle Aplins panic cord, this helped show that the artist wanted to look at her past and enjoyed it much more than her current times and wants to go back, also the idea of the artist being shown as reflective and nostalgic was taken from Birdy - Wings, as she looks back at her previous night and our artist looks back at previous memories with her boyfriend.
Planning a storyboard is essential to the artist and rest of the crew, it allows them to understand what needs to be filmed on which day and what editing techniques, camera shots, etc will be used, making sure the whole group unanimously understand what will be happening, we followed the storyboard with shots throughout, such as the POV over the camera box, helping the audience see the contents of the box, giving them an insight into the rest of the video, however the storyboard was adapted with the narrative, with scenes such as the pub scene, the narrative was changed and adapted due to not fitting in and the film coming out grainy due to lack of lighting
You have provided a very basic post as you have stated what you did for the storyboard to an extent, but not mentioned any ideas or inspirations you included within it from your primary/secondary research
ReplyDeleteYou need to:
1) Perhaps mention a couple of inspirations from different group members
2) State where you have taken inspirations from and where they can be seen within your work (specific examples).
3) You have mentioned your primary and secondary research but not referred to how they have been incorporated into the storyboard (again examples needed for both)
4) Conclusion needs to state the importance and benefit of creating a storyboard before filming and mention what exactly was followed when filming and what was adapted and why (examples)
You have elaborated slightly on inspirations from research and group members, but this is very brief. you have also included a conclusion to state the importance of the storyboard, making this a basic post
