Individual digipak

I created an individual digipak to help sell the artist to an audience and help her become wider renounced and therefore more likely to be successful and not a flop, by advertising her it allows for more publicity and therefore draws in more fans.

I tended to use darker colours/dull colours within my photos to show that the music isn't all about the happiness of love and also shows a deeper, darker side to it, helping her audience realise that love isn't all like fairy tales say (as she says in the song 'panic cord'), however there are bits of brightness within the digipak to show that the songs are not all doom and gloom and that there are good tines in loving relationships as well, helping show the audience she has a lighter side as well. Giving off the right impression of what the artists music is about helps the audience get the jist of what her music is about and draws in fans that would be interested in this particular side of music, and not the wrong set of fans as this could cause her to flop if the correct set of fans are not drawn to her music.

I have conformed to the indie genre conventions, I tried to use lots of conventions to draw in an indie audience so that they would be drawn to her music and therefore draw in the correct audience and make it more likely for her to be more successful as an artist within the indie genre and therefore more likely to bean overall more successful artist. I used lots of natural settings for the backgrounds of the pictures to help show how down to earth and innocent she is, this is a convention of the indie genre and will help the audience understand the artists personality, I also used the convention of dull colouring to show the darker side of the artists music and that it isn't all happiness, this allows the audience to see there is a 'realer' side to her music and she isn't selling a fake dream to her audience.

I used images to show the artist is natural and innocent, I done this by using natural backgrounds such as trees, fields, etc, also in the front cover I have used a glow around the artist, almost making her look god like and showing her purity to the audience, the fact it is a white glow can also back up the idea of the artist being innocent, using white colours contrasting against a darker/duller background, making the artist stand out makes the audience feel like she is always happy, even throughout the rough times, making her seem more likeable and more of a role model, also the use of colours make the audience feel she is more down to earth and approachable if they saw her on the streets, making her become a favourite within the music industry.

The layout has the artist in the centre to emphasise how important she is and that she should be the main focus, and therefore helps the audience remember her face and therefore makes it more likely for her to be successful as she is recognisable to a wider audience, therefore it means her albums are more likely to sell as the public recognise her name, selling her music to the audience, also the colours used are darker, duller colours used to show the sadness and reality of her music, showing she is real and showing the darker side of love, this helps the audience prepare for what they are listening to and not be shocked by the lyrics being sadder rather than happy lyrics, it also allows the artist to draw in the correct audience that would listen to her music and therefore gives her more chance of succeeding as an artist.

The typography used is mostly squiggly hand writing, this links with childhood and childish hand writing and therefore is linked back to memories, which is the name of the album (memory lane) and the song is focused on memories between the artist and her ex boyfriend and she is looking over memories fondly, similar to how people remember their childhood fondly, wishing they could go back to the simpler times, similar to the artist wanting to go back to old times when she was still with her ex boyfriend, using this allows the audience to see a clear connection between the typography and music and therefore understand the song better and emphasise with the artist more, also happy memories of the audience may arise when memories are mentioned, helping sell the album to the audience as they associate the happiness with the album.

Finally language such as

A weakness I found whilst using Photoshop was the blur tool, I found this very time consuming and difficult to really use to a good effect, this caused me to spend a lot of time doing it and eventually have to find an alternative, I needed to help blend in the artist to the background I placed her on, so instead if blurring her in, I placed a glow around her which stopped the contrast and allowed her to fit into the picture more.

I found cutting out images and placing them into the layers, this allowed me to create a much wider variety of effects and images due to this and worked out how to do it straight away and therefore could create a much more impressive digipak, helping the artist stand out to her target audience and therefore increasing the chances of being successful within the indie genre.

My digipak conforms to the indie genre as in the background of all the digipak slides there are natural settings as backgrounds, linking to the down to earth and loving feel about the indie genre, by using natural backgrounds the artist is shown as down to earth and real/approachable and the audience don't feel like the artist feels they are better than the people that follow them, by using settings that are recognisable to everyday people then the audience don't feel far away from the artist, therefore I have conformed to genre conventions for the indie genre, I done this because by following conventions of certain genres then the particular audience you want will be drawn in, therefore making the artist more likely to become successful.

My digipak appeals to my artists target audience as I follow many indie conventions, this helps draw in the audience that will enjoy our artists music and therefore allows the artist to have more chance of being successful in the indie genre, darker colours allow the audience to see that the music is real and not just the happy side of love, this allows the target audience to be drawn in as they know what type of music/lyrics the artist will have on their album.

Meetings and discussions

Meeting with my group regularly allows us to discuss our ideas and discuss when we will be meeting for filming, etc. It allowed us to stay organised and we could communicate any concerns or improvements we thought we could add to our video, this allowed us to create as good a video as we could between us, the ideas are then developed as a group and we decide whether to put them into the final cut of the actual video, by working as a group we can decide as a majority and not leave it to one person. We used our meetings schedule to decide n times that everyone could do, by having it written down everyone knew that they needed to keep certain dates/times open and could therefore always make it, leaving no reason for the whole group not to be there, this lead to much more efficient and organised filming.

Our group did work well together as we were able to discuss ideas as a group and decide fairly what we wanted as a majority, by doing this the group had a much better chance of making a successful video and it was done fairly, also the use of the meeting schedule allowed us to discuss ideas and problems we had for filming as a group and everyone was available to hear the ideas/concerns. We kept records of what was discussed in the meetings so that we could refer back to the ideas on later dates if needed, this prevented us from forgetting any ideas brought up in previous meetings and therefore we could add them in at a later date without forgetting, this allowed us to be efficient and not waste time on adding parts of the video in/filming new ideas.

Photoshoot

The pictures will be used on the digipak and therefore are extremely important, these will be sold to the audience as part of the CD and need to portray the indie genre to the audience so that indie fans buy the digipak and therefore it is more likely to be more successful as the targeted audience will be buying into it and therefore enjoying it as it is accustomed to their taste. Multiple pictures needed to be taken as it allows us to have a choice of photos for the digipak and therefore use the best possible photos we can, if we have no choice we will not be able to make a really professional digipak as the photos may not suit well.

The first image is our artist on a swing, this shows her innocence and purity and that she has a vibrant personality and stands out from the rest of the music buisness, this will be used within the digipak, this is conventional as it uses a natural setting of a field, this allows the audience to see that the artist is down to earth and that she doesn't need an expensive/flashy background like a party to draw in an audience and can become famous purely through her talent. I personally like how well the natural setting works with the artist and how the tree and clouds match with the theme of nature on the rest of the digipak, allowing the audience to see how it all fits in and suits therefore creating a relationship with the artist as they can see she cares about her work and the audience who listen to it and that she wants to make it as good as possible for them.

The second image is the artist on top of a fence sitting down, she has a natural setting behind her, this is showing the same as the last image, a innocent and caring person, as she is caring toward the environment and cares about nature, this will also be used in the digipak, this is conventional as it uses a natural setting of a field, this allows the audience to see that the artist is down to earth, this lets the audience see that she isn't a show off and that she is an everyday person that can use normal settings to advertise herself and doesn't need thousands of pounds to do it. It allows the audience to see how relaxed the artist is in front of the camera, showing her screen presence and helping the audience see she is a natural, this will help the audience see she is truly a talent and the audience will build a relationship with her as they will see that she truly is good and they will want her to do well as she is a naturally talented artist.

The third image is our artist against a wall, this is used to show how she uses normal, everyday settings, this makes the audience relate to her much easier as they feel that she is an everyday person like them and that she doesn't believe she is better than her audience, making her more likeable, this will be used in my magazine advert and the background will be changed to a more natural setting with clouds and a tree in the background, showing again how down to earth she is. It is conventional as it uses natural and everyday environments to help the audience feel like they are just like the artist and therefore they will the artist to do well as they believe if the artist can do well, and she is similar to them, then they could make it as well. I believe the way the artist is acting natural in front of the camera for this shot allows the audience to see how comfortable she is infront of camera and therefore believe she is destined to be a star in the music industry, this helps the audience relate to her as the everyday setting allows them to see that she isn't a massive star and that she is just a normal person trying to be successful as a music artist, this makes the want her to do well as she is such an underdog and they try to do everything they can to help her succeed.

The fourth image is our artist against a tree sitting down against it, this shows how close she is with nature and that she is a caring and down to earth person who uses natural and shows the audience she can make the most of her talents with little money and she is battling big companies/labels. This will be used in the digipak. It is conventional as it is in a field setting with trees, this allows the audience to see she is a natural and down to earth person. I feel this is good as it gets our artist involved with nature as much as possible and shows the audience that she really does care for nature and is a loving person, this allows the audience to relate to the artist as the field is a common place for normal people and they can relate to it, also, the fact that she is battling big artists with lots of money, the audience root for the underdog and want her to succeed against the odds, this helps her do well as she has lots of people behind her willing her to do well.

We used the setting well as there were numerous shots/ settings within our photoshoot so we didn't stick to one, this gives us a number of choices so that our digipak is boring and repetitive, however we found getting different places fairly difficult as we only could find some places suitable to our genre and wanted a good quality picture so took a while finding the best places.

Individual magazine advert analysis

I created my magazine advert to allow Kerry (our artist) to reach wider audience through magazines, this would allow her to widen her target audience/fan base and help her become more successful. The magazine advert is key as without it the artist would have no form of advertisement and she would not be able to reach a wider audience, causing her and her music to be a flop and not sell. This is why the magazine advert is such an important stage, if the advert does not attract an audience then it will not get any attention and therefore not sell, also the advert has to give off the right impressions in terms of genre, the advert must show what genre it is through using conventions of that specific genre and therefore drawing in the correct target audience, this therefore would lead to her success as it would only draw in the correct audience and people that would enjoy her music.

I decided to use black and white within the advert to demonstrate the sadness, linking in with the music video as it is about her breaking up with her boyfriend and the sadness she is experiencing whilst reminiscing on all the happy memories they had together, trying to relive the past and not wanting to go into the future without him. I gained this inspiration from Gabrielle Aplins magazine advert, this also uses a black and white filter. This helps the audience see that she is distraught about her boyfriend leaving her and the audience sympathise toward her, this causes the audience to warm to her as they can see she wears her heart on her sleeve and doesn't hide her emotions, making the audience feel that they know her better as they know when she is upset, helping create a relationship between her and her audience which makes her more likely to be more successful as she has fans wanting her to do well and helping her as much as possible.

In the advert I have conformed to the conventions of the indie genre through the use of natural setting, I have trees and grass in the background showing how natural/pure and down to earth she is. I gained this inspiration from Gabrielle Aplins magazine advert, in which she has a background of the sky and fields, I replicated this within my magazine advert using a field and sky filled with clouds as a background. personality trait that the public warm to and therefore the audience warm toward her and want her to do well, helping her become more successful in whatever way they can (buying albums, etc) and spreading awareness of her work, the natural setting also gives off the impression she is caring and loving and the audience therefore warm to her as a person.

I used a picture of our artist with a background of trees and clouds/blue skies, this shows how she is a natural person and doesn't need a flashy background and represent herself voyeuristicly to attract an audience and can use simple things that you see everyday and still be a successful artist and therefore is appreciated truly for her talent and not other reasons, the audience appreciate the fact that she is a normal person who doesn't use unfair means to advertise themselves and attract wider audiences, for this reason fans will warm to her and help her become successful by spreading awareness of her music as they want her to do well.

The artist has been placed directly in the center to help the audience focus on purely the artist and not be distracted by other things in the background, again, I took this idea from Gabrielle Aplins magazine advert, in which the artist is exactly in the middle of the advert. This will help the audience memorise the artists face and therefore make them more likely to be successful as they will see the artists face on other songs and therefore buy it due to recognising her and enjoying her music, this helps the artist become successful and widen her audience due to her popularity.

For Kerry's name and the song title 'panic cord' a squiggly font is used, this makes her seem more innocent to the audience which makes them like her more, also it can be seen as more natural and free flowing writing, linking with the natural setting of the background and helping the audience see that she is a caring and thoughtful person due to the writing being so innocent and tidy, also showing that she would be focused on her work and make sure everything is perfect for her audience, which they appreciate.

The connotation of all the above show that she is a caring and loving person who can really relate to her audience and appreciates them, also that she has nothing to hide from them and is a really open person that her audience can relate to.

I found the blur tool very hard to use effectively on Photoshop as it was very fiddly and I struggled with it, so instead I decided to look at using another tool, I created a glow around the artist, this allowed the image to not need to be blurred an meant it didn't completely separate itself from the background and fit in well

I found the quick selection tool very easy to use and used it a lot due to this, it was key for my advert as it allowed me to choose what background I wanted and not just have to stick with the background I had in my picture, it also allowed me to change the opacity of certain images and the darkness/ make it black and white on certain bits, this helped my image look professional and a advert a real artist would create, the audience can see that the artist is sad and that she is trying to break through the darkness with her bright personality, which will make them warm to her.

I feel the advert conforms to the genre conventions of indie as it uses a natural setting with a tree and clouds in the background, this helps the audience see how caring she is and helps them build a relationship with them, which is key if the artist wants to become successful and widely renounced.

It appeals to the target audience as the writing, and image are conventionally indie, hey both show a natural side to the artist and help show that she is down to earth, caring and like an everyday person who the audience would be able to relate to, this makes it easier for them to listen to her music as they can understand where she is coming from and emphasise with her.

filming schedule

A filming schedule is important when creating a music video as it allows for structure and for the video to be fully planned out, it also allows us to see if there are any flaws in the narrative and if so we can fix them. The schedule allows the whole group to know when we are filming and what we will be doing during the filming, this means that they can dress appropriately and prepare themselves for the filming ahead, understanding fully what they should be doing during the scene, also the camera man should look at the schedule so he can understand the shots being used and adjust the camera to suit the scene, also he will know the length of each shot and will not have to confront the director about each shot, this allows for faster, more efficient filming.

We mostly followed the schedule but also made slight changes during filming, but in certain parts we had to improvise due to us not having the filming schedule on us, we had a rough idea of it so we could improvise and make sure the shots were still relevant and made sense to the rest of the video and will not confuse the audience during filming, this is why we took lots of time during filming as we was unsure whether we had all the correct things, for example for the pub scene we had to decide what camera shots looked best during each shot and tried to make the shots short, we also hadn't planned to have others in the background during the shots but due to the storyboard not being there we changed this and left them in the background, this ruined the scene and may have to be shot again due to this, also for the pub scene we was not meant to have the scene that dark as it ruins the shot and makes it grainy for the video and ruins the effect for the audience, we want the video to feel as real as possible and this ruins the effect, therefore we will go back to reshoot the pub scene during a earlier time with more light. The filming schedule allowed us to all to be organised as a group and understand when to be at which location and what we will be doing, this helped us film as a group and get each scene done. Some times we had to adapt the film schedule, for example in some scenes the lighting was too dark, therefore we done inside scenes instead of the scheduled outside scenes, then switched the dates around, allowing for better lighting and a better quality of filming.

There were lots of scenes that had to be adapted/followed, for example in the London scene our artist not being available for filming, therefore we had to film scenes without her and decided to film for the fast timing of shots scenes and filmed people walking past, this was used within the video to show past time and worked extremely well with the rest of the video.  Some scenes were postponed due to us having to use an actor from outside the group, this caused postponements of dates and lead to us filming later than it was preferable, therefore causing the shots to be of low quality and grainy.

Risk assessment

The purpose of the risk assessment is to stop the filming crew, actors and public from getting injured, this could be a very low impact injury up to a potentially fatal injury, all must be covered and prepared for otherwise filming could go seriously wrong.

This is essential to carry out as otherwise you could seriously hurt yourself and those around you, by doing the risk assessment you will make sure that everyone is safe and filming can be done in a secure environment in which everyone feels comfortable whilst filming for the video

The different columns were essential for the understanding of the table and preventing any mix ups, this helped us stay safe and allowed the whole crew to be accident free and understand the assessment completely, helping to make a fluent, effective and efficient filming schedule due to lack of delays through risks.

We did follow the risk assessment whilst filming, however we also encountered another problem, whilst filming some shots had to be done on the road whilst filming to get the correct distance, this meant there was a possibility of getting hit by a car, therefore we done it at times where the roads were not busy and also used back roads instead of main roads so that less cars were going past, as a back up if the first plan was not possible, we had a spotter, they would watch out for cars that could hurt the camera man and break the camera if hit, by having a spotter we could stop filming if a car was coming and carry on once it was gone, this allowed for safe filming and the camera man could focus on filming and not have to worry about possible dangers. We mostly followed the assessment most of the time apart from avoiding rainy days which could cause the crew or artist to slip during filming, therefore the back up option of wearing appropriate footwear was required, this helped prevent any injuries and therefore allowed for fluent filming, the rest of the time we followed the risk assessment and conducted filming properly, for example we made sure we followed the fire procedure extremely carefully to prevent any danger to ourselves or those around us, this was extremely helpful and prevent any accidents

This table helped create fluent and effecient filming for everyone, it was easily understandable and allowed everyone in the group to understand how to stay away from danger and prevent harming themselves and those around them, which was key for filming, we had already prepared for outtcomes and therefore filming was much quicker and safer, allowing the crew to be fully focused on their task as they had no worry of danger, helping the quality of filming increase and therefore the overall video improve.

planning digipaks

The planning of the digipak is important to helping promote the artist and help create relationships between the artist and audience, this is important as if a relationship is not created then it is unlikely they will warm to the artist and enjoy the music as much, therefore making it less likely that she will be successful, certain colours and images involving the artist will help give off a certain view of them that their audiences will see, if this gives off a good image then the artist is more likely to be liked, thats what I tried to use as many bright colours to draw in the audience and make them see her as a fun and vibrant person who they would like to meet.

The colours I have used are bright and will attract the audiences attention, this allows us to stand out from other digipaks/artists, the colours will also represent the artists personality and show off how fun and vibrant she is, this is good for her image and allows us to draw in a wider audience and expand the artists name, helping her become wider renounced and gain a wider fanbase. This digipak has conformed to the indie genre as it has used lots of colours that are bright and vibrant, also it has used natural images such as flowers, grass and leaves, these show how down to earth and pure she is as a person, making her more like able, images that show off her personality have been used so that the audience feel like they know her better, helping to create a relationship between them. The layout consists of six panels, each showing a different part of the package to the audience, these will all give off different vibes to the audience, I have tried to relate as many as possible to the actual music video so that the audience can recognise it clearly and link it together easily. The typography will be in a font that is curly and almost like a girls hand writing, this writing gives off a sense of a friendly personality that doesn't want to harm anyone and is extremely likeable, therefore making the audience warm toward her and like her more, making it more likely for her to become successful and have a long career in music due to gaining a fanbase. The language is down to earth and involves personal content, trying to relate to the audience as much as possible and allowing them to feel appreciated and respected by the artist, this is used to create a relationship between the artist and audience and help her succeed as an artist within the indie genre.

The digipak promotes the indie genre as it shows the darkness and happiness contrast theme of the songs typically within the indie genre, advertising it to the correct target audience and drawing in an audience who will enjoy the music and not dislike it, this helps it succeed and become renounced within the music industry.

The audience build a relationship with the artist as they can see the pain the artist has been through and therefore they can emphasise with her and therefore they build a closer relationship with her and this helps her become more successful and gain a wider fanbase.

This allowed me to understand what I needed from the artist in terms of the photoshoot to allow me to get the correct images on the digipak, however it also allowed me to understand what my idea looked like as an overall and I decided to change it, I changed the CD to have a background with the fireworks in the music video to allow for the audience to see her true personality and how her bright personality always shines through the dark times and how her music may be able to help her audience going through a dark time, I originally had memories on the CD but as I already have that on the cover photo on the artists face I decided to change it to make sure its not repetitive, I have also changed image 2 to her around the bonfire, this again, links with the music video and allows the audience to make the connection, the current photo doesn't really link in and doesn't make much sense, this is the reason I have changed it. I am more aware of the pictures needed for the digipak now as I understand what works and what doesn't suit the rest of the digipak/ the artist.

Storyboard

The purpose of a storyboard is to allow the director understand what he has to film next and makes sure that nothing is missed, also it allows actors to prepare themselves for the scenes ahead and understand what they will be doing, it makes everything much more organised for everyone and allows for a better quality of video overall because everyone understands everything and can fulfil their jobs completely.

The primary research was used to help us understand what our audience wanted and why they wanted it within the video,  by asking a target audience their preference we can see what should be added, this was the case with the idea of using performance and narrative as styles of video as it allowed them to engage into the video more. It let us understand the effect it creates, therefore the group and I can make sure we know what we are doing and get what we could put in there, secondary research helped us gain inspiration for our video, as well as plan for what shots and editing techniques will be used, this is important for our group as it allows us to decide on details that can help improve our video which we may have forgotten about before, we took inspiration of fast timing of shots from Ed Sheerans - A team, he used this to show the passing of time, we done the same thing to show that the artist is still reminiscing over previous times and hasn't got over the boy. Planning is important for a successful music video and without the video may be a flop. We took inspiration from artists of different genres as well as the artist that we have used the song of, taking a mix of different and the same genre as it allows for a mix of conventions while not straying too far from the original genre and keeping its identity while not being too similar to others, our group story boarded together, we all done it together as we all knew the story, this allowed us to get through it quicker and spend more time focusing on other planning as we all understood the story line, we all done different parts so that we could decide on the shots and editing techniques we wanted to use.

We have followed our storyboard as it was carefully thought out and has allowed us to stick to it, however we have added a few extra shots which are used as fillers during the song, these do not contribute to the narrative really but allow us to use up extra time whilst adding to the story, storyboarding allowed us to understand how long we need to film each part to take up the full time needed, meaning we will not go to edit and realise we haven't filmed enough and ruin our music video

Different group members gave different inspirations and ideas, for example, Kerry came up with the idea of the memory box as a use of mise en scene to show that the artist is still living in the past and wants to reminisce in previous, happy times. Alfie came up with the idea of showing memories using the filter 'dream', this helped the audience distinguish between memories and current times.

The inspiration of the memory box was taken from Gabrielle Aplins panic cord, this helped show that the artist wanted to look at her past and enjoyed it much more than her current times and wants to go back, also the idea of the artist being shown as reflective and nostalgic was taken from Birdy - Wings, as she looks back at her previous night and our artist looks back at previous memories with her boyfriend.

Planning a storyboard is essential to the artist and rest of the crew, it allows them to understand what needs to be filmed on which day and what editing techniques, camera shots, etc will be used, making sure the whole group unanimously understand what will be happening, we followed the storyboard with shots throughout, such as the POV over the camera box, helping the audience see the contents of the box, giving them an insight into the rest of the video, however the storyboard was adapted with the narrative, with scenes such as the pub scene, the narrative was changed and adapted due to not fitting in and the film coming out grainy due to lack of lighting

Planning individual magazine advert

A magazine advert is key to promoting the artist and their albums as it helps the audience see important information and see when the dates of certain dates for gigs, albums or singles, it also allows the audience to see what upcoming events are happening for the artist and allow them to follow the artists life and consume them (buy tickets or their albums/songs), the audience can see key information and do not need to read through a load of irrelevant advertising to see the information, instead it is straight to the point and informs the audience, therefore they stay engaged and don't stray away due to boredom, I will be creating a magazine advert for our artists new album (promoting her hit song which our artist will be performing for the music video), this advert will use the bright colours to draw in the audiences attention and then the straight to the point on information, making it more likely that the info will stick in the audiences head.

We have used certain characteristics such as red on the artists checkered jumper to represent the love she shares with her boyfriend as well as the danger ahead in their relationship, allowing the audience to foresee their break up and fell sympathy for the artist, helping create a relationship between her and the audience as they can relate to her, we have made the artist conform to the indie genre conventions with things such as natural settings (shown in the grass background), also we will use bright, flamboyant personality which draws the audience in and makes them like her and want to listen to her current and future work, making her more successful and wider renounced, this is conventional within the indie genre as artists want to build relationships with their fans in order to become successful and gain a fanbase to help them gain popularity. We will use images of her memories with her boyfriend for the video to make up her face, this will show how she wants to relive the experiences she had and how they are always on her mind and not allowing her to move on with her life, this allows the audience to relate to her and build a relationship with her. The artist will be placed in the centre of the advert to help the audience focus on the artist, making it more likely that the audience will memorise the artists face, therefore making it more likely that she will become wider renounced and more successful, the artists name will be in the biggest font to make it stick in the audiences mind which will give her a better chance of being successful, the language used will include things such as 'hit debut album' to really draw the audiences attention to the artist and make them read the advert due to being engaged into the poster quickly, and therefore being interested in her work and wanting to help her succeed.

The audience build a close relationship with the artist as she will use all possible techniques to relate to the audience and therefore build a close bond with them, helping them support her and want her to succeed, making it more likely for her to succeed and do well as an artist.

The use of 'hit debut single' shows it was a success and therefore draws in a wider audience as they see she has done well and is enjoyed by a large audience, therefore the target audience are drawn in and look at it, giving it a greater chance of success and more chance of gaining a wider fanbase.

This has allowed me to prepare for the poster I will create for our artist as it let me plan how I will set out the poster to make it as effective as possible and help her become as big an artist as possible and reach as wide an audience as possible, planning is key for this and is important for our artists success, this has helped us understand what kind of pictures our artist needs to have on her poster as the research and planning has allowed us to see what is the most effective and fits the style of the poster.

Planning editing styles

A variety of editing styles are key to keeping the audience interested and engaged in the music video, they allow the audience to see different takes on the moment and stops boredom of a certain scene setting in within the audience, it also allows the artist to represent the scene in a certain way, e.g- to show a certain mood within the scene, allowing the audience to sympathise and relate to the artist, showing that they understand what the artist is going through and what the artist is trying to show to the audience.

The first editing technique we will use is a filter which will create an effect, making it look as if the scene is through the view of a camera, this will be used during the scene in which the boy (which the artist flirts with, which then annoys the boyfriend) is taking a picture of the couple having a picnic over the fields, it will end up being a point of view shot, this is conventional as it shows the artist closer up, through another view, allowing the audience to memorise her face/her as an artist, this is conventional to the genre as it is common for indie artists to show their face as much as possible to the audience to help them memorise the artists face to help sell the artists products, also this filter will make her more relatable will be an everyday camera look, sowing she does not use fancy, over the top cameras, which is an effect artists want to create and try to regularly, which is why it is a conventional technique, this represents the artist as down to earth and an everyday person, relatable to the audience she has aimed her music toward, this allows the audience to relate to the artist as they can see she doesn't act any differently to them and is extremely down to earth. This is good for the artists image as it will make her more likeable in the audiences view. This connotes the fact that she is nostalgic as it shows that these are just memories and not current times, showing she's is still reminiscing over old memories and wishing she could return to them.

The next editing technique is the shot reverse shot, this will be used during the pub scene when the second boy comes over and starts chatting to the artist, right in front of the boyfriend, it will show each persons expressions during the scene, this is conventional as it shows close ups, meaning the emotion of the persons face can be recognised fairly easily and therefore helps the audience understand the emotion of the scene and how the artist is feeling, this is common within the indie genre as it helps the audience see the artists true feelings without her speaking, making them feel like they know her better as they can see how she feels just through her face, also showing how they should feel as the audience, this helps the audience engage into the video and enjoy it more due to this, this style of editing represents the artist as down to earth and 'normal' due to showing emotion like everyone else and not hiding it, showing how upfront she is and that she has nothing to hide from her audience, making her more likeable and respectable in the audiences eyes. This represents the artist as emotional and as a close friend to the audience as they feel like they can see how she feels without her speaking, making it feel like they've known her for years and are close with her. This shows the artists true feelings about the current situation and her situations she was previously in allowing the audience to relate to her emotions and see how she is actually feeling in that situation without her stating it.

Next is fast paced editing, this will be used for the filler scenes as well as the final bonfire scene in which the artist is chucking all the souvenirs into the fire and burning them, this is conventional as it shows how the artists mind is racing and that she is distraught and cannot think straight or steadily due to the overrunning of emotion, this is conventional as it is common within the indie genre to emphasise emotions of the artist to help the audience relate and see their vulnerablitiy, this therefore allows the audience to symphasise with her, the effect that most indie artists want to create within their video, helping the audience understand the narrative which is a common aim within the indie genre, this represents the artist as upset and that she feels the relationship speed by and that it went downhill so quickly and unexpectedly, this helps the artist relate to the audience as they can see she is just as emotional and invests just as much into her relationship as them and therefore is just as heart broken when a relationship ends, helping them sympathise with her. This connotes the overflow of emotion the artist has and how overcome she is by all that has happened, this helps the audience sympathise with the artist and relate to her due to seeing she is similar to her audience due to feeling the same emotions as them after a break up.

Last is the montage editing, this will be used in the filler memory scenes to help show the many enjoyable and loving times they shared which makes the audience realise how in love they are and makes the audience want them to do well and hope that they last as a couple, this is conventional as the audience attach themselves to the couple and feel real emotion when the artist and boyfriend break up and helps them engage in the film, this is conventional as indie artists often create relatable storylines to use within their video to make the audience feel more involved and closer to the artist, this is what the artists aim to do, make the audience gain a real interest in the events within the video and feel real emotions, this represents the artist as an emotional wreck and showing how down to earth and up front she is as she is hiding nothing and is showing true emotions to the audience which they can understand and sympathise with. This shows that the artist is still thinking about her previous relationship and has not got over her ex boyfriend and still has an emotional attachment with him, the audience can relate to this as they can see she truly was in love, helping them see how similar to an everyday normal person she is.

The audience can relate to the artist through the editing as it shows how down to earth and relatable she is and that she does not feel she is better than other people or that the audience are not as good as her, the editing styles also allow the audience to sympathise with her in certain situations and understand the emotions she is feeling, planning the editing is key, researching into editing conventions can help the artist understand what the audience can relate to and can help them create a successful and conventional music video.

Planning artist image

Artist representation is essential in a music video as it help portray which gerber the artist is and therefore will help decide which audience she draws in through the way she is represented, it also makes the audience more or less likely to remember her and therefore more or less likely to be successful within her target audience, it also shows her as a person and allows the audience to decide whether they like her personality or not, which also contributes to the success she has and how widely renounced she is/how wide her audience is.

The first costume she will wear are her dungarees, red lipstick, to show the danger they are getting into and also representing love between them, her hair will be wavy and she will wear boots. This will be used in the train station scene where her and her boyfriend are inside an abandoned train station and are just roaming around new places, she also wears a back pack to show the journey she is on and the freedom she feels she has when she is with her boyfriend. Dungarees are extremely conventional to the indie genre as it is a common item of clothing in the indie genre, it represents how basic and laid back their music is in the indie genre, the image helps represent our artist as laid back and down to earth as she is not overdressing in her videos and wears what normal, everyday people wear, this helps the audience build a relationship with her as she is made to feel more approachable and likeable. This costume follows the indie convention as it is commonly used within indie videos and helps portray the artist as an everyday, day to earth person, helping the audience relate to her as they see how down to earth she is and feel they can relate to her.

The second costume is the green camo jacket along with a black top, boots and shorts, she will also have wavy hair and a natural look with her make up. This will be used in the scene where her and her boyfriend are over on the fields, enjoying themselves and having a picnic, this shows that she is part of the world around her and is a free spirit, but also the darker colours portray the upcoming events, when the new boy comes onto the scene and begins to flirt with the artist, slowly distancing the artist and her boyfriend from each other and creating friction. This outfit is conventional to the indie genre as it shows the artist as down to earth/ a earth loving person, this allows the audience to see what a good person the artist is and take an instant liking to them. This represents the artist as a good person and someone who cares about the environment, it also shows how down to earth and normal she is as a person and does not see herself as better than others, but also that she has a darker side and is not all nice, which creates a shock within the audience but also makes her more likeable to some and it shows that she has some downfalls like everyone else and she is not perfect, again making her seems more approachable and down to earth, therefore it is conventional as it follows the typical indie genre theme and makes the audience warm toward her due to seeing her real personality and relating to her due to seeing how down to earth she is.

The third costume is a checkered shirt, ripped jeans, with natural make up and plaited hair, this will be during the kitchen scene in which the artist and boyfriend are enjoying themselves and play fighting whilst making cakes. This is conventional as it shows how confident she is of herself and how up front and doesn't hide anything from her audience, indie artists want to create this image for themselves as the fans can then create relationships with their artists through this and create closer bonds, this makes them more likely to be successful and become bigger artists. This costume helps represent the artist as down to earth and up front with her audience, it also shows how outgoing she is and that she is a true and natural person, the ripped jeans show how torn she is inside and that, although she is happy on the outside, she isn't 100 percent committed inside and that she has her own flaws as well. This follows the indie convention as it shows that she is emotionally broken and therefore the audience can relate to her and sympathise with her due to seeing how much pain she is in, helping them bond with her.

The fourth costume is her in an oversized jumper and her hair plaited with flowers. This will be done during the garden scene in which she and her boyfriend are watching a movie in a cinema like setting they have made in the garden. This is a conventional outfit as it shows the artist as relaxed and not afraid of her true image, and will let it out to the audience. This represents the artist as down to earth and natural, also peace/earth loving and relaxed in her true image, which is inspirational to the audience as it helps them truly appreciate their own body and image and helps them come out their own shells. This follows the indie convention as it shows her audience she doesn't feel she is better than her audience and shows truly how down to earth she is.

The last costume is her in pjs and messy hair, this is in the scene where she is going through all her souvenirs with her boyfriend and reminiscing over past experiences and the enjoyment they have over the years and what she misses about him. This is conventional as it shows the artist as comfortable in their own image and inspires her audience to be confident within themselves, making the artist a role model to her audience and therefore more likely to become successful. This represents the artist as confident and not having to dress us to feel like she needs to dress up to impress people, this shows her as confident and outgoing, as well as up front with her audience as she is not hiding anything. This helps the audience relate to her as it follows indie conventions, they can see how down to earth she is and that she hides nothing from her fans, helping them bond and build a relationship with the artist.

Our audience can relate with our artist due to feeling like she is down to earth and like an everyday person, this makes the audience feel like they can approach her and she does not feel she is above herself, also we show flaws to her, making her seem more achievable and realistic to her audience. This allows her to seem a more likeable person and not as unachievable, we will also make her a role model to her audience, so that they aspire to be like her, making her more likely to be recognised by a wider audience and therefore more successful. Planning has allowed us to grasp, as a group, how we will create this specific image for our artist and why we will create this certain image, by making this image she will become a more successful artist and wider renounced
